NO JOB IS TOO BIG
The materials I use in the thatching process include: Water Reed, Combe Wheat Reed, Long Straw and Sedge. I am one of the few thatchers to grow their own straw and am able to offer a complete field to roof service.
No job is too big.
Ridge and Repair
This service normally happens after 12 – 18 years after Re-thatching has taken place. It involves the removing of the entire old ridge and repairing the roof where necessary. A choice of pattern is offered. The whole roof is then Re-Wired on Completion. Sometimes, if required only the Ridge is Re-Wired.
Re-Thatch of Combed Wheat and Long Straw
A thatched roof comprises multiple layers of straw. The age and condition of your existing thatch will determine the amount of work required during this process. Most work involves removing at least the top 16–18 inches of straw, however some jobs do require a complete re build. The rethatching includes the installation of new ridge is fitted and re-wire.
Re-Thatch of Water Reed
This involves the removal of all the old thatch. Once the roof is exposed a complete inspection of the structure is undertaken. The fire barrier, if in place, is inspected to ensure it complies with current building regs. If no fire barrier is present, this will be offered at additional cost. Layers of reed are then applied to a depth of 14–18 inches. The roof is then completed with a new ridge in the your choice of pattern and re-wired.
